A must have resource for most solutions, Azure Key Vault stores secrets, certificates and keys for use by other platform resources to authenticate and encrypt content as required. The centralised nature of the resource gives operational teams a simple way to manage access across a solution without the need to interact with many different security models or re-deploy production workloads just to recycle connection information, for example.

Offering both RBAC and local access policies Azure Key Vault has become a common data platform storage tool for many values and operational parameters, including Azure DevOps deployment pipeline variables and to house secret scopes for Azure Databricks.

In the context of a data integration pipeline, Azure Key Vault values can be using passively for external resource authentication or actively as part of the pipelines runtime execution when accessed by the Azure Management API, called from a Web Activity.

See MS Learn for more information on this Resource here.
