As part of the Azure Monitor family and building on the evolution of the on-premises Systems Centre Operations Manager (SCOM) product, Azure Log Analytics offers similar technical capabilities for cloud resource event logging. Through the common ‘Diagnostic Settings’ interface for other Azure Resources, Log Analytics can be selected as a destination for all event telemetry and metrics. Operational information and alerting can then be captured and defined using the Kusto Query Language (KQL). This approach can be considered as a subset of the technical offering available in Azure Data Explorer.

Once operational metrics and charts have been created, they can be easily pinned and shared as part of an Azure Portal, arranged alongside other helpful widgets and resource links. In the context of a data platform solution, using a variety of Azure Resources, this approach can be a helpful way to monitor pipeline failures, cluster compute and Key Vault security request across the environment, as an example.

See MS Learn for more information on this Resource here.
