The Microsoft equivalent to ‘If This Then That’ (IFTTT), Logic Apps has been around since 2014, slowly maturing and supporting the foundations of other cloud resources such as Azure Data Factory.

The graphical, low code development canvas makes automation and workload orchestration easy across a wide range of tools, not limited to just data platform use cases. However, I common data handling pattern could be the ability to reach out to on premises services and storage via a gateway. Allowing processes to react to remote events, such as file server create/updates.

With a variety of other trigger mechanisms and connectors, as well as pre-built templates Logic Apps offers point to point solutions for many business applications and integrations. Another example might be the ability to call out to Azure AI Services in a workflow for document handling or social media sentiment analysis and intent capture, allowing marketing teams to be alerted.
